Four people died and 16 others were seriously injured in traffic accidents that happened during Eid holidays, from September 8 to 18, in various parts of the emirate.
"All these accidents took place due to unexpected lane changes and over-speeding," said Major Khalid Al Kai, director of awareness and traffic media department.
The police operations room also received 32,350 calls at 999 and 901 to report, traffic accidents, crimes and various other emergencies.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Lt. Col Jassim bin Haddah, director of the operations room at Sharjah Police said they received a total of 27,225 calls at 999 and 5,125 non-emergency calls at 901 that include enquiries and request for police services.

He explained that calls are classified according to their importance. The staff at the operations room sorted out the calls and referred them to the departments concerned.
Lt. Col bin Haddah urged the public to call 999 only for serious and emergency situations and 901 for minor accidents and non-emergency situations.
Major Al Kai said the accidents that occurred during Eid holidays have been described as serious and moderate. It caused death to four and serious and moderate injuries to 16 people at various parts of the emirate.

He said that the Sharjah Police are making great efforts to reduce traffic accidents, and urged motorist to abide by the traffic safety law to ensure safety.
