The Dubai Police have warned bystanders to not crowd around accident sites or try to rescue victims. The warning came after it emerged that a wrong rescue attempt resulted in the death of an accident victim in Dubai.
A senior police officer said that after an accident recently, a crowd of bystanders tried to rescue the young man.
"However, they dragged him improperly from the driver's seat, which broke his spine. It caused severe damage to the victim's spine and he died before the rescue team could arrive," said the officer.
"The young man would have been alive had it not been for the rescue attempt by unqualified people."
Major Ahmed Atiq Abdullah Bourguiba, deputy director of search and rescue, Dubai Police, said crowding bystanders are still a "huge problem" for the police as they "delay communication with the authorities concerned".
"They also cause obstacles for the police and paramedics to access the accident site."
