A Pakistani laundry driver has been cleared by the Court of First Instance of the charge of molesting a 10-year-old boy at his home while his parents were away.
He denied earlier the charge in court.
According to public prosecution records, the 24-year-old driver went to the boy's house on December 12, last year, and was received by the little Filipino boy. He asked him whether there was anybody else at home before touching and hugging him.
"I told him it was just me and my older sister. He put the laundry on the chair before he came very close to me," the boy said. He recounted to the investigators how the driver stood very close to him touching his body.
The boy asked the driver to leave and then sent a message to his father on Facebook.
He added that it was the first time the driver behaved like that towards him.
The boy's father, a Filipino civil engineer, 48, said his wife called him to go home. "She told me that our son had a problem. In the meantime, I received a message from him on Facebook telling me the laundry driver had behaved in a strange way towards him.
He also told me he did not want that worker to go to our house again. When I asked him what was wrong he started to cry. He told me the accused kissed him on the cheek and hugged him and touched him inappropriately," the father said.
The father then filed a complaint against the driver.
The acquittal decision may still be appealed by the public prosecution.
