A young Arab-American who murdered his father using a fire extinguisher must complete his jail term, a Sharjah Court ruled.
The Sharjah Court of Appeals upheld the verdict of a lower court which sentenced the man to three years in jail for murdering his father.

The son had claimed that he killed his father at the behest of a jinn. His family had waived off blood money and qasas, following which he was sentenced to three years in jail and deportation thereafter. His advocate, Salem Sahoo, had appealed the verdict.
According to the mother, the son had gone to the US when he was 16 where he joined university to study international law. He was in his second year of college when he complained that he could not focus on his studies. That was the beginning of his illness, said the mother. His uncle brought him back to the UAE and the parents took him to several doctors for treatment, including a faith healer from Sudan.

The family also tried to prove at the court that he was having some psychological disorder and was not aware of what he did as he was sick.
