The Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence team managed to skillfully remove a 13-year-old's finger stuck in a metal nut.
Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi, director of the UAQ Civil Defence department, on Thursday, said the Emirati boy was brought by a relative to the department late on Wednesday night.
"They first approached one of the hospitals which directed them to the civil defence department. Our competent men managed to remove the metal nut from the boy's ring finger."
Cases like these require special equipment and training to avoid hurting the boy's finger. The electric cutter used in cutting into the metal nut can hurt the boy's finger so a slim metal was placed on his finger.
Cooling down the boy's finger from beneath and above was also necessary to protect his finger against the resultant heat, he explained.
He also urged parents to develop their children's awareness to avoid playing with harmful items that could hurt them.
