The Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (HAAD) has announced the launch of e-sick leave verification tool. The URL www.haad.ae/sickleave allows all employers to verify the validity of sick leave and print them out without the need to contact or visit the Authority. 
The URL allows customers to verify their sick leaves and check the status (approved, under process or in need for more information). It is highly secured, necessitates the consent of the patient. 
Mubarak Ali Al Mazrouei, Customer and Community Services Manager at HAAD, said: "HAAD strives to improve the quality of services provided to its customers. The e-sick leave verification tool aims to provide the customers with an access to verify their sick leaves in an easy way without the need to travel or visit HAAD or the doctor at clinic and hospital. The tool also help reduce sick leave fraud, employers can verify their employees' sick leaves directly using the URL. 
"It also helps to ensure the patients know their rights and duties and their sick leave entitlement. In addition, the e-link is a quick and easy tool to ensure the verification of sick leaves, taking into account the privacy of patients and hide some confidential data like diagnosis." Al Mazrouei added. 
Sick leaves can also be verified by using HAAD mobile application available on Google Play and App store.

 Two types of sick leaves 
The sick leaves are categorised into two types: Short term and long term. The short-term sick leave is extended to a maximum period of 7 days and approved automatically by the e-sick leave system, whereas long-term sick leave above 7 days and is subject to the approval of the members of the medical committee at the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi.
