A whopping 99.7 per cent of residents in Ras Al Khaimah feel safe, the emirate's police have said. A top police official said the rate is the highest in the country.
The figure is based on "special indicators" set by the Minister of Interior in all aspects of security, traffic, strategy and community.
Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said last year, 95.2 per cent of residents had felt safe.
"The RAK Police have adopted an array of well-studied programmes, initiatives, projects, and plans," he explained. "This is in line with the strategic vision of the Ministry of Interior for the years 2017-2021 so that the UAE becomes one of the safest and most secure countries worldwide."
The Himaya (protection) security system involving the installation of 109,369 CCTV cameras in 16,867 buildings in the emirate has boosted "residents' and visitors' feeling of safety and security".
