Let's face it: some people will do anything for their passion. Just ask a number of people who flew all the way to Dubai just to get the first bites of Apple's new iPhone.
Ahmad Al Hajri from Saudi Arabia came in on Friday and practically went straight to the Apple Store in Mall of the Emirates. He told Khaleej Times that he had started his wait at 10pm.
He was seemingly at a loss for words and was brimming with excitement - probably even mixed with some shock to find out that he was, indeed, going to go No 1 in the iPhone 7 sweepstakes.
"Just for the iPhone," Al Hajri sheepishly quipped when asked if there was any reason why he attempted the feat, unable to hide the winning smile that seemed to capture everyone.
Ali and Dawood did not mind the even longer trip from Iraq.
"It's amazing, a really amazing thing to be part of the festive atmosphere in Dubai," Ali said.
They added that it was their first attempt to queue up at an iPhone launch. It was definitely all worth it. Even if they had come rather "late" at around 3am, they were mere steps away from Al Hajri, so the extra minutes they had to wait to get into the Apple Store wasn't all that bad.
But trumping them all was Dubai-based Ranjit Jose from Kerala; he had pre-booked his iPhone and was the first to arrive in that queue. His reward, aside from the obvious: Bragging rights as he was the first to be welcomed inside the Apple Store.
Also making its debut on Saturday was the new Apple Watch Series 2, which features upgraded specs and watchOS 3.
