A Syrian truck driver (41) and two Saudi men - a businessman (24) and a visitor (37) - have been charged with possessing 916,400 tramadol pills for peddling.
A police lieutenant in the anti-narcotics division said they were tipped-off that the truck driver possessed a large quantity of narcotics which he intended to sell. The police learnt that he was in Al Aweer area around 6pm on February 6. However, they could not arrest him then as he did not show up.
Later, they were tipped off that the driver was storing narcotics in a yard where trucks were parked in Al Warsan. On finding nine big bags, the officers kept a close watch on them.
Later that day, the businessman came with the other accused and another man and loaded the bags onto a pick-up van. They were arrested by the officers and later taken to the General Directorate of Narcotics.
The businessman reportedly confessed that the tramadol pills belonged to him and that he was to sell them to someone. Also, according to the Crime Lab report his urine sample tested positive for the drug. The driver was arrested on the same day in the same yard.
The next hearing has been set for December 20.
