A Singaporean tourist, who had been caught with 200,000 fake Kuwaiti Dinars, has been sentenced to one year in jail.
The 38-year-old, identified as C.S., admitted during the investigation that he had brought the fake bills from Bangkok and was to give them to a man in Dubai. He claimed he was to get paid $10,000 for the job. C.S. has been ordered by the Court of First Instance to pay a Dh10,000 fine. He will be deported as he was found guilty of possession of counterfeit notes for circulation.
A police lieutenant said that on November 30, last year, they were tipped off by a reliable source that a man possessed notes believed to be fake. "We learnt about his whereabouts that was near a shopping centre in Al Qusais. We apprehended him and seized fake 200,000 Kuwaiti dinars found in his possession".
C.S. was referred later on that day to the Economic Crime Department. During the questioning, he claimed he brought the notes from Bangkok.
According to the Crime Lab report, the seized 100 bills (2,000 dinars each) were all counterfeit.
