The Ajman Federal Court of First Instance has slapped a Dh10,000 fine on a 20-year-old Gulf national and ordered the cancellation of his driving licence for driving his car under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
According to police records, the defendant was caught by patrols while changing lanes carelessly and causing danger to other motorists. When the police arrested him, he was found in an abnormal state and smelled of alcohol. The police rushed him to the hospital where they conducted blood tests and confirmed he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs while driving. Officers also discovered that he has a prior record of drug possession.
He admitted in the court that he had drug pills for medical treatment and demanded the judge overturn the verdict.
