Kerala police are groping in the dark over the burglars who decamped with four kilograms of gold, diamonds worth Rs5 million and Rs25,000 in cash from the house of a Dubai-based businessman in Kerala on Tuesday night.
According to the police, the incident took place at the house of Kunjumohammed, owner of Jaleel Group of companies in Dubai, at Vadakkekad in Trichur district. The house was unoccupied when the burglars broke into the house and stolen the valuables from the locker in the house.
Police officials at the Vadakkekad station said that the gold and diamonds kept in the locker of the house after a marriage of Kunji's relative were stolen. An old man living in the outhouse had no clues about the burglary until he noticed the backdoor of the house forced open in the morning.
He immediately alerted neighbours and relatives. Though a police dog sniffed its way to the back gate, it returned. No suspicious object has been found from the area surrounding the house. Police probing the incident do not rule out the hand of an insider behind the burglary.
The police officials believe that the robbers opened the locker using a key they got from a cupboard. The locker was in the bedroom of Kunjumohammed on the ground floor. In all, the robbers broke open five doors on two floors. The cupboard has also been forcefully opened.
Kunjumohammed and his family live in Dubai. They had visited home in connection with the marriage of a relative and had left for Dubai on September 20. Kunjumohammed's younger son Ghafoor and his eldest son Shameer are managing directors of Jaleel Traders, which trades in fruits and vegetables in the Gulf.
