MANAMA - Bahrain population has increased to 1,234,596 during the last nine years with an increase of 89.9 per cent, compared to 2001 census.
The ratio of Bahrainis decreased to 46 per cent, from 62 per cent in 2001 as now there are 5,68, 424 Bahrainis whereas expatriates number rises to 666172, representing 54 of the population. Dr Mohammed Ahmed Al Amer, the president of the Central Informatics Organisation (CIO), revealed the figures during a Press conference on Sunday to announce preliminary results of the census. The male population is higher than females with 100 Bahraini women for every 102 Bahraini men, while the gap is much higher in non-Bahraini population with 260 men for every 100 women.
Bahrainis below 15 represent 31.8 per cent, while it used to be 36.5 per cent in 2001. Senior citizens account for 4.2 per cent.
