Pipe a cake with mummy

This weekend is Mother’s Day and, boy, is there a whole bunch of fun activities across town! And what better way to celebrate the bond of motherhood than baking?

Bloomsbury’s, the chic little artisan bakery in Dubai Mall, is giving a little special bonding time for mums and kids this weekend over exquisite cupcakes. Just show up and ‘Pipe a Cake with Mummy’. When you’re done, proudly show off your decorated cupcakes with other moms and kids. We’re sure it’ll be a blast!

The promotion is valid from March 20-21 and runs from 2pm onwards. If you’re in Abu Dhabi, fret not. Bloomsbury’s has three branches there, which will also be running the promo from 11am on both days — at &Al Wahda Mall, Mushrif Mall, and Y Tower Building in Abu Dhabi.

 Eggspecting more?

Eggspectation at The Beach, JBR, is doing things a little differently this Mother’s Day, with celebrations running all through March 22-26 — because why have just a Mother’s Day when you could celebrate the women who raised us all week?

The café has a special offer for the entire week featuring its set menu for the occasion, which is filled with sentiments. Starting with Kindness, followed by Nourishing Love and ending it with some Sweetness — it promises to be a heart-felt 3-course meal. And best of all, it’s on the house!

So go on… all you need is to make it to Eggspectation and inform them you’re with your mom. Her meal is on Eggspectation, but you’ll get the thanks!

If your mom loves the opera, there’s no better show in town this weekend!

“One Night at the Opera” costs Dh385 per person; the deal includes a sharing set menu of three starters and three entrées and soft drinks. Doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 8:30pm. For reservations and information contact 043551116.

Mad over hats

BurJuman’s annual International Millinery Exhibition is well under way and this year — its 14th edition — promises to be even more extravagant with even more glam looks. From delicate fascinators to statement hats, the mega collection includes over 500 pieces to suit all discerning race-goers in the region.

The exhibition will run from this weekend until March 27 in the lead-up to the 20th Dubai World Cup on March 28.

From bold florals, bohemian glamour, lacy designs, bright colours and monochrome patterns, shoppers will be spoilt for choice to complete their race day look. Together with free make-up advice sessions by Natasha Ahmed — free make-up sessions are on Saturday, March 21 at 5pm and Tuesday, March 24 at 7:30pm — and hats from the likes of Christine Rohr and Lucy Dantec-Hodges, the exhibition offers customers everything they need for the prestigious event. Also present will be UK-based award-winning milliner Philip Wright, who is frequently commissioned by members of royalty such as HRH Princess Anne of Edinburgh, and other notable dignitaries such as Lady Isabelle Hay and The Honourable Alexandra Foley.

The 14th BurJuman International Millinery Exhibition will be located on level 1 at BurJuman, opposite Saks Fifth Avenue, from 10am to 10pm daily.

Seize the Zeitgeist

Mussawir Art Gallery in Al Quoz is hosting a visual feast of works by five of Pakistan’s most sought after contemporary artists this week, until April 2. The show — Zeitgeist — thematically addresses the greater idea behind the seminal German philosopher G W F Hegel’s arguments on the concept of Zeitgeist, which is a combination of two German words meaning the spirit (Geist) of the Time (Zeit), and how history is a constant clash of time.

Each artist — Kiran Saleem, Sausan Saulat, Scheherezade, Junejo, Anil Waghela and Mariam Hanif — will address various notions about socio-cultural norms of a given period and the status quo, as well as project their own unique perspectives about dilemmas and characteristics shaping the world today.

Zeitgeist is open from 11am to 7pm everyday until April 2. Mussawir Art Gallery is located at Al Marabea Street, Opposite Al Shirawi Equipment in Al Quoz 1.

An Afternoon with Van Gogh

Fairmont The Palm is paying tribute to iconic artist Vincent Van Gogh with an exhibition and bespoke afternoon tea honouring the great artist throughout March. Seven of his most famous works, including Sunflowers, Almond Blossom, The Harvest, The Bedroom, Wheatfield under Thunderclouds, Boulevard de Clichy and Landscape at Twilight will be on display at Mashrabiya Lounge as part of the exclusive newly created Van Gogh Museum Relievo collection of fine-art reproductions. The themed afternoon tea is inspired by flavours from the Mediterranean where the great artist lived and worked. It’s a great Mother’s Day treat, especially for the moms who love art! There are informative tours of the collection as well, taking place every Saturday starting at 2pm in the lobby till the end of March.

The Van Gogh afternoon tea is available daily from 12pm to 6pm and costs Dh125 per person. To make a reservation or for more information, please call 044573457.
