His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, spoke to Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Tuesday, March 10, following a failed assassination attempt on the latter's life.
"Today I spoke to Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, who was in fine health after the failed heinous assassination attempt on his life. The UAE condemns any attempt to undermine the stability of Sudan, and we stand with Sudan during this crisis", he said in a tweet on his official account.
Sudan's Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok had survived an assassination attempt targeting his convoy in Khartoum, state television and a cabinet source said on Monday, March 9. Hamdok, who was appointed to head a transitional government after the overthrow of long-time President Omar Al Bashir last year, has been moved to a safe location, state TV said. Images broadcast on regional TV channels and social media showed a convoy including several damaged white SUVs and a badly damaged car.
The UAE strongly condemned this attack.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation affirmed the UAE's strong condemnation of such criminal acts and full rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at undermining security and stability in contravention of religious and human values and principles.
The ministry reiterated the UAE's support and solidarity with Sudan during this transitional period to ensure stability, security and fulfilment of the Sudanese people's aspirations.
