A 32-year-old driver, accused of sexually harassing a female swimmer at a beach, has been sentenced to three months in jail by a Dubai court.
The Pakistani man was found guilty and ordered to be deported by the Dubai Court of First Instance. The hearing was earlier held in private.
He has been detained after the incident that took place on August 2.
The complainant, a 39-year-old Filipina, said during the public prosecution investigation that on the day of the incident she was with her friends in Jumeirah Beach.
"The defendant was swimming there and he kept harassing us. He would keep his distance when we told him to stay away; but then he would come back again."
She was still swimming about half an hour later when he suddenly swam very close to her. She recalled he hugged her forcibly and inappropriately touched her.
After she pushed him away and screamed, he swam away to the beach and left the water. She chased him and asked beachgoers to restrain him.
Her friend, a 42-year-old Filipina, said she witnessed the incident.
When on-duty police officers responded to the call made by the woman, the defendant confessed he swam close to her but claimed he touched her thigh by mistake. He was then arrested.
The defendant has the right to appeal the ruling within 15 days.
