The Fujairah Misdemeanour Court has issued a one-month suspended jail term against a Gulf citizen after he was found guilty of slapping a teenager and slightly injuring him. He was also ordered to pay a Dh20,000 fine.
As per court records, the defendant was summoned by the Fujairah Police for allegedly slapping a teenager.
The man was referred to the public prosecution where he blamed the assault on the teenager's "indecent act".
He said the teenager intentionally forced open the door of a toilet in a shopping centre in Fujairah while he was inside. When he broke in, he felt embarrassed and angry.
"I did not mean to hurt him; I was only disciplining him so that he does not repeat it again, particularly as he did it in purpose."
He added that he did not swear or insult the teen.
"The teenager knocked at the door of the toilet which was locked that's why I did not reply to him."
He forced the locked door open however, and started laughing with friends, he told the court.
"He was making fun of me in front of his friends and meant to show me undressed," he said. "I do not think anyone may accept such indecent act."
The Court turned down the defendant's pleading, and issued a ruling against him
