The Smovies challenge is back this September with a new competition for film making enthusiasts. BrandMoxie, the creator of Smovies, said on Sunday that amateur and professional filmmakers in the UAE have until the end of the month to come up with a one minute film that fits the theme "#Born to Challenge".
Inspired by Infiniti Q30 car, is Nissan's first entry in the premium compact hatchback category. The theme is opened to creative interpretation, whether it is a story, a documentary-style presentation or social commentary. It may be filmed either on a video camera or a mobile phone camera.
For the Smovies, BrandMoxie and VOX Cinemas are partnering this season with the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi, twofour54, Infiniti of Arabian Automobiles Company and Tempo magazine.
"We're pleasantly surprised by the response from the film community who have been eagerly awaiting the season launch," said Sana Bagersh, CEO of BrandMoxie and founder of The Smovies.
"Technology is the big game-changer, enabling people without special equipment or formal training to express their creativity using film," she added.
The Smovies competitions, which encourage filmmaking on phones, tablets and other everyday communication terminals, roll out across three seasons: April to June, July to September and October to December. The theme for the winter challenge is yet to be announced.
The winner of the current "#Born to Challenge" will get their film screened across VOX Cinemas in the UAE as well as a cash prize of Dh5,000 from Infiniti of Arabian Automobiles Company in Dubai.
Jury members will include Emirati directors Majid Al Ansari and Nujoom Al Ghanem, award winning Emirati actor Mansoor Al Feeli as well as filmmaking instructors and a representative of Arabian Automobiles Company in Dubai.
Winners will be announced during a ceremony in October.
