Family members of seven of the passengers who were on board the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 on Friday filed a suit against the airline in Malaysia, citing negligence and breach of contract.
The airliner was felled by a missile in Ukraine in 2014 which led to the death of 298 persons.
The plaintiffs filed the civil suit at the Malaysian High Court claiming damages and other compensation over the death of their kin-four Indonesians and three Dutch nationals aged between two and 74 years, Efe news reported.
The airplane, a Boeing 777-200ER, was enroute from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur on July 17, 2014 when it was downed in Ukraine by a Russian-made Buk Missile, as was concluded by the Dutch Safety Board, the agency leading the international investigation into the incident, on October 13, 2015.
The plane was carrying 283 passengers and 15 crew members, spread between ten different nationalities -- 193 Dutch, 43 Malaysians, 27 Australians, 12 Indonesians, 10 British citizens, four Germans, four Belgians, three Filipinos, one Canadian and a New Zealander.
