Umpire Ranjeet Joshi honoured

DUBAI — The Lifetime Achievement Award in memory of the late Prem Mishra who was a senior umpire here was presented to senior umpire Ranjeet Joshi from Dubai at the Holiday Inn during the Blenheim Champion’s Trophy awards ceremony.

Mishra’s family was keen to institute an award in his name and thought of awarding a momento in his name along with a cash award of Dh1000 to one umpire every year.

Joshi who has been umpiring in Dubai since 1980 and has covered matches in events like the Melabis Cup, Sony Cup, Dulsco League, and continues to this day standing in the the Seven Seas events.

Joshi is from Mumbai and has played for Fort Vijay Cricket Club at Azad maidan and has represented them in the Purshottam Shield and other tournaments.

He arrived in Dubai in 1969 when he was 21 years old and played for the locals sides here — Indian Sports Club (now India Club), Bombay Blues, United CC and Gulf Shipchandlers before he took up umpiring full time.
