Cigarettes and tax

This is with regards to the news, Minimum price of pack of 20 cigarettes set at Dh8 (KT, Oct 23). An excise duty should be slapped at the import stage, that is at the time of clearance of goods by the importer. Asking retailers to do the job might encourage the wholesaler to increase the price before tax.
