The UAE on Saturday renewed its unwavering commitment to combating the global narcotics problem, underlining that it has succeeded in bringing down the addicts rate on its lands to record degrees.
Speaking on Saturday at the 30th UN General Assembly Special Session on the world drug problem, Colonel Saeed Abdullah Al Suweidi, Director General of the Federal Anti Narcotics Department at Ministry of Interior, tackled the efforts being exerted by the UAE government to combat narcotics.
For the first time, the drug addict index amongst UAE nationals dropped by 7 percent in 2014 as compared to 2013. The same indicator fell by 8% in 2015.
He said: "The UAE has adopted many national programmes to prevent from drugs, which led to decreasing the rate of drug addicts for the first time by 7% in 2014, and by 8% in 2015.
"The field efforts exerted to fight narcotics that were doubled by the country have resulted in reporting a noticeable rise in the seizure and arrest rate of drug dealers by 9% in 2014, and 15% in 2015," he added.
