Illegal UAE residents looking to regularise their status through the upcoming visa amnesty scheme have the option of applying for a six-month temporary visa as they look for a job, a top official said on Sunday. For vacancies that come up in the country, priority will be given to applicants from this pool of job seekers registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
"However, if they don't find a job within six months, they must exit the country," Brigadier General Khalaf Al Ghaith, assistant director general, violators and foreigners follow-up section, General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai, said.
This came as the GDRFA Dubai announced its preparations to receive amnesty seekers at Al Aweer immigration centre. Two tents with a combined capacity of 3,000 have been set up the centre to receive illegals wishing to avail of the three-month amnesty scheme that starts on August 1.
