An attempt to steal electrical cables belonging to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) by three men failed after one of them burned to death by electrocution, the Court of First Instance was told on Sunday.
One of the alleged thieves, a 31-year-old Pakistani vendor, denied a charge of attempted theft, together with a runaway and the deceased, when he was brought before the court. The case dates back to October 8, 2013. "We were informed that an explosion sound was heard at an electricity room of a Dewa facility in a building in Al Sufouh, following a robbery attempt," a police corporal said. "We moved to the scene and found a charred body. We alerted the forensics and could identify the body later. The accused was apprehended after we learned of his involvement in the theft. He willingly confessed that he went there at night with the other two. They carried with them sharp tools including cable cutter. They were scared and had to run away when the room exploded and their friend died."
The defendant led the CID ?officers to the site before he was returned into detention. The court will hand down a ruling on February 8.
