The Fujairah Misdemeanour Court has ordered a GCC national to serve one year in jail for assaulting an ambulance driver on duty.
Court records show that the wife of the accused had a medical emergency and she called the ambulance to take her to the hospital.
An ambulance, along with paramedics, quickly arrived at the house and shifted the woman into the vehicle.
However, the patient's husband suddenly appeared at the scene and stopped the ambulance.
He first asked the ambulance driver to let his wife out. However, the driver refused and insisted on transporting her to the hospital.
The husband got angry and assaulted the driver. He then pulled his wife out of the ambulance and took her back to the house.
The ambulance driver lodged a complaint with the Fujairah Police, who arrested the husband.
The defendant failed to justify his violent action against the driver who was performing his duty. The court sentenced him to one year in jail.
