'We are showing the many facets of the Filipino life in this soap,' he continues. 'But the highlight is the OFW struggle, the many difficult situations a Pinoy gets entangled with when he goes to work abroad. That includes falling in love.'
While Toni Gonzaga is paired in the hit movie, 'You Are the One,' with Sam Milby and now with Luis Manzano in her first soap, both are being linked to her. So does she have romantic scenes with Luis that Sam might get jealous of? 'Gosh, there's so much here that Sam will be jealous of as Barcelona itself is already so romantic and Luis and I have so many romantic scenes,' she says.
'Luis and I have a swimming scene in the fabulous beaches of Ibiza where I wear a two-piece bikini. First time I've ever done this in my whole life. But it's not fair to compare them with each other. The important thing is both are considerate and very sincere.'
Toni plays Janice, an OFW who works in Spain to help her parents, Dennis Padilla and Rio Locsin. Luis is a student there, the son of rich parents, Jestoni Alarcon and Sylvia Sanchez. They meet in Barcelona and fall in love, with Toni disguising herself as a rich girl. Their families also have their own stories back in Manila. Toni‚s brother, Joseph Bitangcol, figures in a love triangle with Sandara Park and Gabb Drilon. Luis‚ sister, Valeen Montenegro, falls in love with an Amboy, Aldred Gatchalian. Also in the cast are John Prats, Roxanne Guinoo, Victori Basa, and Pokwang.
The soap casts the unusual but interesting pair of Luis and Toni as they have been together in several of ABS-CBN's shows and have developed a certain closeness. 'And so, despite her stronger romantic link with actors Piolo Pascual and Sam, the network deemed Luis as the best choice. The reason: chemistry. 'Toni and Luis are longtime friends and co-hosts,' explains Salud. 'It won't be hard to draw up a romantic chemistry from them.'
