Harry Potter blows away UK box office

LONDON - “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1”, the first of two films based on the last book in the fantasy series by JK Rowling, took the British box office by storm over the weekend, grossing 18.3 million pounds ($29.2 million), according to Screen International on Tuesday.

Pregnancy-themed road movie “Due Date” was knocked down into second place while the three orphan girls of family movie “Despicable Me” stayed at three.

Sci-fi movie “Skyline” slipped two places to four, just above “Jackass 3D” which was down one at five.

The former CIA agents on the run in “RED” stayed at six while the two wolves of “Alpha and Omega” continued their comeback, rising two spots to seventh after having slipped to 13th a fortnight ago.

Bollywood movie “Guzaarish” was new at eight, just above Facebook biopic “The Social Network” which was down at nine from seven.

Director Mike Leigh’s study of a middle class suburban couple “Another Year” was unchanged for a second week at 10.
