MUSCAT — Omantel, the Sultanate's top telecom service provider, is actively pursuing investment avenues outside the country, its CEO said here yesterday .
Dr Mohammed Ali Al Wohaibi said the majority state-owned company which earned an RO81 million net profit last year, up 19 per cent on 2005, was "keeping an eye on all markets in the Gulf, Middle East, South Asia, including India and Pakistan, and Africa." Answering a question, he said Qatar, where the government is opening up the telecom market allowing entry to a second mobile operator soon, was one of the markets under Omantel's consideration. "We are preparing a document showing our interest in Qatar," he added.
