Work of handicapped artists in the spotlight

SHARJAH - More than 30 Arab handicapped artists and intellectuals participated on Saturday in the forum titled "Art and the Handicapped" organised by Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) in coordination with Sharjah Department of Culture and Information at Al Qasbah Canal in Sharjah.

The forum was organised as a part of "Multaqa Al Manal" which will end today to mark the 18th anniversary of the Al Manal magazine published by the SCHS.

The two-day event was attended by Shaikha Jamila bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Deputy Chairperson of the Family Supreme Council and the Director-General of SCHS. Also attending were artists from the UAE and Arab countries and a number of people with special needs.

The opening of the forum featured speech of SCHS delivered by Osama Mardini, Editor of Al Manal Magazine and the Media Director of SCHS as well as presentations of eight working papers introduced by artists from Arab world, including UAE, during the sessions.

The papers covered two main topics "Visually handicapped and Art" and "Curriculum Vitae in Handicapped Art" which were presented during the first and second sessions. The third session chaired by Abdulfatah Sabri and Nawaf Younis saw presentation of fiction readings by Hamdi Basiari, Dr Mohammed Salah Eizza, Nasir Nawrani and Rohi Abdat.

During the second session, five working papers highlighted the Curriculum Vitae in the Art of the Handicapped whose presentation was made by Ali Abdul Jalil Ali.
