An African woman, who beat up a restaurant worker at Dubai Airport after becoming hysterical, was recently referred to a psychiatric ward at Rashid Hospital.

Major-General Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, Director of the General Department of Airport Security, said the airport security department received information from a restaurant at the airport that an African woman who had arrived at the airport on transit, had suddenly started screaming for unknown reasons.

“We got to know that she destroyed cups on tables. She also beat up a worker of the restaurant when he attempted to stopped her... people at the restaurant panicked,” he said.

He also said that female police officers intervened and took the woman to the airport clinic but found that she needed more help. He said the police interrogated the restaurant staff about the cause of the incident.

Boy rescued from baggage claim area

Meanwhile, the police handed over a six-year-old child to his parents after the child went inside an empty counter towards the baggage claim area, where the luggage conveyer belt took him to the loading area. An airport employee saw the child and used the emergency stop button. By this time, the child’s parents had informed the airport police about their missing child.

Bin Thani said that such kind of cases could normally occur as the airport has a large number of counters without barriers. After this incident, a circular was issued to establish barriers at all counters to ensure that such an incident would not be repeated. He said the child was not hurt because the Dubai Airport is one of the most safest airports in the world.
