According to a senior official, Ajman Route No112, Dubai (Al Qusais/Sonapur) Route No113 and Hamriya Free Zone Route No114, were moved from the main gate to the left side of Al Rolla Public Park, which is slated to be opened soon after a massive facelift.

Sharjah Intercity Transport Manager Adel Khalil said the new area was used a public bus stop facility earlier.

It was widened to withstand more buses and give more room for park-goers at the main gate.

“The move, carried out in collaboration with the Sharjah Municipality, is aimed to enhance traffic flow of intercity and public transport buses, and provide a more convenient shuttle service to the public.”

Explaining, Ahmed Al Waqqad, Manager of Constructional Projects – Sharjah Transport, said the new bus stop facility has been broadened to cover 213 square metres.

“Two-metre wide pavements are there for the public to ensure their safety.” Sign boards were installed to guide the public to the new stops and display bus routes numbers.

“The new facility will be equipped with posts showing the numbers of the bus routes passing by and starting from the area,” he said, adding “this will help passengers know the start and destination of every route.” Rabaa Al Marzouqi, Head of Public Transport Section, said the new facility was earlier used by some other public transport.

“The old bus routes 88, 14X, 12 and three, as well as the passing routes number: 15, 99, two and 19 will remain unchanged.”

The Sharjah Transport is now operating 224 public buses on the 21 city and intercity routes. These connect Sharjah City with Ras Al Khaimah, Khorfakkan, Kalba, Fujairah, Masafi, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Hamriya Free Zone, Dhaid, Madam, Dibba Al Hisn, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai.

“The buses in service are up to international standards in terms of safety and convenience; they are all fully air-conditioned, with TV screens and separate sections for families, ladies and special needs commuters,” she said.
