SHARJAH — Books of Egyptian and Saudi publishers that were supposed to be displayed at the Sharjah Book Fair have not yet reached the venue.
The books were supposed to have reached the book fair at least three days before the inauguration of the event on December 5. Dr. Yousif Aydabi, general coordinator of the book fair, held a meeting with the affected publishers and said he had contacted the Publishers’ Association in Saudi Arabia to resolve the problem quickly.
With regard to Egyptian publishers, he said their book consignments had been delayed as they were being brought by land transport. The Egyptian Publishers’ Federation, too, has been asked to help out in the matter.
Egyptian publishers, during a meeting with the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information (SDCI), have been told to send their book consignments by air in the future.
They were also told to arrange for books from their local distributors to cover the shortage in the Egyptian section.
