Taking a cue from Arvind Kejriwal, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also lambasted BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on his home turf on Tuesday comparing the Gujarat chief minister to Adolf Hitler and saying that the German dictator always praised his own decisions.
Taking a swipe at Modi at a massive rally in Balasinor in central Gujarat, a traditional Congress bastion, he said that Hitler never thanked people for progress in Germany and took all credit himself.
But, the Gandhi scion said that his party had leaders who understand people’s desires and know that Gujarat had prospered due to efforts and hard work put in by the men and women of the state.
Gandhi obviously meant Modi when he raked up the Gujarat CM’s bid to project himself as the people’s “watchman” in New Delhi.
“India doesn’t need a security guard, people of the nation need their rights.”, he said and accused the state government of snatching away land from farmers, a charge that has been levelled against the Modi government by the Aam Aadmi Party leader.
Gandhi said that taking away farmers’ lands without any compensation is chori (theft), not chowkidari,” he said.
About Modi’s development claims, the Congress leader said Gujarat was shining only for a few industrialists, who prospered at the expense of common men in the state. He also scoffed at Modi for taking credit for the success of Amul and for appropriating the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Mahatma Gandhi.
