DUBAI — A teacher was shocked at the end of last month to find that 50 per cent was deducted from her December salary. When she contacted the concerned department, she was told that it was correcting a mistake that happened 10 months ago.
The teacher had taken maternity leave for a period of four months, in addition to one month annual leave from February 20.
Back then, the law allowed her to take two months paid leave and another two with half pay. She was back to work in June.
In the first week of July the rules were revised to the effect that maternity leave period was to be only two months with full pay.
