DUBAI — In an unprecedented call issued by him, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, asked the publishing houses and translation institutions across the Arab world to face up to the challenge of publishing a thousand books a year.
He also asked them to buckle up to participate in ambitious programme which the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation has embarked upon to bring out a thousand books a year.
“Are you ready to translate and publish a thousand books a year? then get prepared, and let’s go,” Mohammed said.
In a call issued shortly after he attended a special session on the policies, problems and solutions of publishing in the Arab world which was held on the first day of the Knowledge Conference, Shaikh Mohammed asked the writers, thinkers, researchers and all those gifted with creative thinking to present their thoughts and projects.
He said that they will definitely find attention and support from Mohammed bin Rashid Foundation.
“You may naturally ask how this is possible and how this ambition will come true.” Shaikh Mohammed answered these questions with confidence saying that the foundation is capable of bringing the ambition into fruition. He also said that several projects will soon find light.
Shaikh Mohammed also pointed out that the foundation is about to enter into partnerships with universities, publishing houses, translating establishments and all the relevant organisations for realising its programme.
Opening the first Knowledge Conference yesterday in Dubai, Shaikh Mohammed had launched 25 new key initiatives in the area of knowledge and education.
