Get your act right

It has a First World infrastructure, manageable cost of living index, and a very ethnically diverse society that eagerly looks forward to some of the world class acts that are brought here frequently. People need to be entertained and Dubai offers it.

It is an innovative city that’s wired differently and has got its act right with people from all parts of the world, with all sorts of business ideas and ventures, converging here, to make their money. Among them are the event managers of the entertainment industry.

However, with a few exceptions, most of them involved in bringing some of the world’s top entertainers to Dubai have disappointed in their organisational capabilities. Time and again, they have let the crowds down. There’s no denying that the organisation of these much looked-forward-to events leaves much to be desired, the show timings are just not respected with some shows starting almost hours after the crowds have trooped in, the acoustics, which always make the difference between a great show and a bad one, sometimes grates, and security is not always up to the mark.

When will they ever learn that there should be a healthy respect paid to timing. And those who go to be entertained are also to be equally blamed. They stroll in late, keep their mobiles on and eat and talk loudly while the show is on. This has just got to stop, and will, only when the organisers put their foot down on despicable behaviour — but only after they get their own act right.
