Mohammad Obaid Al Mulla, CEO of the RTA’s Marine Agency, said that work on the Dh11million project, which started in July this year, is slated for completion in December next year.

The RTA had signed contract with an agency specialising in electronic fare collection systems to provide the best electronic fare collection system for the RTA.

Al Mulla said the agency is designing and updating the system, while technically matching it with the requirements of marine transport, particularly the Water Bus. The system provided by the contractor will later be tested to ensure that it is flawless.

“This project also comprises construction of gates tailored for special needs people,” said Al Mulla. It may be noted that between August and October this year, some 20,927 passengers have been commuted in the water buses in some 4,080 trips.
