An official from the Operations Room of Sharjah Police said that ‘hard shoulder’ should be used only in an emergency situation and not as a general parking place.

“Many roads and highways are witnessing an increase in the number of fatal accidents resulting from trucks parked on the hard shoulder of the roads. The roads include the Airport Road, Emirates Road, Al Maleeh Road and Sharjah-Al Dhaid Road. We found that many truck drivers simply park their trucks on the hard shoulders of highways, particularly during their prohibited timings of using the road,” the official said.

An Indian died and three others were critically injured on Tuesday morning when a garbage truck collided with a pick-up truck that was parked on the hard shoulder between the 5th and 6th Interchange on Sharjah-Al Dhaid Road.

Anjad patrols and rescue units rushed to the accident site and had to use hydraulic cutters to retrieve the body of the driver.
