Omar Mohammed Abdul Rahman, head of the Building Inspection Section at the civic body, said on Tuesday that relatives like cousins, uncles or aunts etc are not allowed to share a villa under the new ‘one villa-one family’ rule.

“Suppose there is a family consisting of a man, wife and a kid. The kid grows up to marry and sets up his own family. In this case, we’ll not consider it to be a different family and the whole family can stay in a single villa. But then, cousins, uncles, aunts etc cannot be called one single family,” he made it clear.

The official said that the rule applied to many families sharing a one villa. “This (many families sharing villas) has been the reason for illegal partitions, accidents and unhygienic environment,” the official said.
