Big fire in Abu Dhabi gas factory

ABU DHABI — A massive fire erupted in a gas factory in Al Mousafah area in Abu Dhabi on Monday, but no casualties were reported, Colonel Abdullah Hassan Ghareeb, Director of the Civil Defence Department in Abu Dhabi told Khaleej Times.

A thick black cloud of smoke blanketed the area causing panic among people in the residential areas adjacent to the company premises, Colonel Ghareeb added.

The fire spread in the premises quickly as gas tanks caught fire. Firefighters and rescue operation and control squads swung into action, preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining areas.

The extent of the damage caused by the fire is being studied.
