The Abu Dhabi government media office on Sunday announced a monthly cap on toll charges on vehicles.

"Daily commuters will benefit from monthly caps on fees. Monthly caps for private vehicles will be Dh200 for the first vehicle, Dh150 for the second, and Dh100 for each additional vehicle, as well as a daily cap of Dh16 per vehicle," it said in a tweet.

The announcement comes as part of the DoT's statement that the toll gates will be free of charge until January 1, 2020.

The Department of Transport, Abu Dhabi, on Sunday announced that the soon-to-open toll gates will be free of charge until January 1, 2020.

This trial period will provide residents more time to plan the best travel times and explore transport alternatives, the DoT said.

The four toll gates are scheduled to commence on October 15.

"The system has been developed with the aim of reducing traffic congestion while limiting costs for residents. Once fees are implemented, senior citizens, retirees, martyrs' family members, people of determination and low-income earners will be exempt, according to eligibility," the DoT added.

Daily commuters will benefit from monthly caps on fees. Monthly caps for private vehicles will be Dh200 for the first vehicle, Dh150 for the second, and Dh100 for each additional vehicle, as well as a daily cap of Dh16 per vehicle, the department said.
