In a bizzare incident, 500 villagers of Bawamohatra, a village in Bemetra district of Chattisgarh attended the last rites of Gangaram, a 130-year-old crocodile.
The community gathered near the pond to bury the three-meter-long reptile, according to Hindustan Times.
The crocodile died of natural causes and a post-mortem was conducted in the presence of the villagers, said RK Sinha, sub-divisional officer forest) to the newspaper.
Villagers now wish to build a statue of Gangaram near the pond to remember their friend.
