According to a circular issued to the educational zones by the Ministry of Education, the directive covers all teaching and administrative staff including expatriates. The Ministry will bear all the expenditure and costs that may come up as a result of the decision, the circular said.

These polytechnic colleges would be subsequently placed under the Technical College, with which the Ministry had entered into an agreement last January to run the polytechnics for a period of five years. The agreement is renewable at the end of the five year period. The Ministry, however, has permitted the Technical College to reappoint those whose services would be terminated in August on their own terms.

The Ministry had also entered into another agreement with the General Headquarters of the UAE Forces in February to finance and run secondary polytechnic schools in Al Ain, Dubai and Sharjah. The agreement comes into effect from the date of signing till 2010.

The equipment and machinery in the laboratories of the polytechnics would be transferred to the Technical College, and they would be responsible for its maintenance.
