The ministry of infrastructure development has started building a number of internal roads at the Buteen Al Samar residential compound in Ras Al Khaimah.
The project, worth Dh26 million, is to be completed in the second quarter of 2018, according to Eng. Ahmed Al Hammadi, manager of roads department at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development.
The one and two-direction that each comprises one lane in each direction shall be all lit by solar power, he added.
"This will help reduce carbon emissions and negative impact on the environment, leave alone lower maintenance costs."
The project, to include a number of intersections and traffic lights, will be carried out in line with latest standards and specifications."
Eng. Al Hammadi said the ministry projects are all implemented in view of the latest sustainability and green buildings standards.
"These are also in line with the UAE 2021 vision to be one of the most advanced countries worldwide."
The ministry is to carry out a number of projects for the benefit of security, education, health, and service sectors, along with road projects, in the coming five years.
"These include a number of buildings for police headquarters across the country, as well as several courts, prosecution, federal roads, health centres and smart schools."
The ministry has carried out four major projects worth Dh180 million in the first quarter of this year.
"These included the construction of immigration department in Sharjah, dentistry centre in Khor Fakkan, health centre in Kalba, and health centre in Ras Al Khaimah."
The ministry has further finished the second phase of Emirates road in Ras Al Khaimah at the Suhail and Shamal areas worth Dh69 million, he disclosed. "The road is to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017."
Three lanes have been built in each direction of the road with a middle road island that can be turned into a fourth lane in the future, he elaborated.
"A free intersection has also been built on the RAK international airport road at Suhaila area, while all the power, water and communication lines were moved in a secure way."
Seven truck rest areas are to be built on the key road to avoid any haphazard parking or traffic congestion on the road, he said. "Each and every rest area can withstand 300 trucks."
