RTA holds lecture on first aid
DUBAI - At a lecture on 'First Aid Principles' held by the Assets Management Department of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) recently, key employees of the RTA were briefed on the basic and primary means of giving first aid and how to handle emergency cases.

Eisa Al Deesi, Director of RTA Asset Management, said the department is activating a number of key programmes, including First Aid treatment to inculcate the right practices and knowledge among employees, particularly the lecture on First Aid, where every community member is required to know its basics and how to cope with the injured in emergency cases.

A technical instructor specialised in Emergency Medicine explained the various types of wounds and required plasters, types of burns and their treatment, internal and external bleeding and how to prevent it.
He also reviewed the procedures of delivering First Aid to the injured and traumatised persons and the importance of calling the number 999 to seek assistance in transporting the injured to the hospital.
He highlighted the importance of soothing the injured and assuring him or her that his injury was light, the need for using safety means (gloves), identifying the type and location of the injury, applying cold compressed wound dressings while avoiding the movement of the injured limb, ensuring the fixation of the injured limb by means of splint, stopping the bleeding of open fractures, and afterwards transporting the injured to the hospital in a proper way.
During the lecture, a female Emergency Medicine Instructor discussed the various types of wounds, and how to make the appropriate splints by giving some illustrations before the audience in cooperation with RTA employees.
She also shed light on the definitions, symptoms, types, forms and reasons of fractures.
