With social distancing in place to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, marriages are now being conducted using visual communication systems, the Sharjah Family Court has said.
Virtual knots are being tied through online conferencing in the presence of a marriage cleric, bride, groom and their parents or guardians, according to a top court official.
"The service was launched by the Ministry of Justice to reduce the number of people at the court premises and facilitate personal transactions of citizens and residents, thereby preserving the health and safety of all," he said.
Couples intending to marry can benefit from the service by logging on to the ministry's website - www.moj.gov.ae. They have to choose e-services option to enter the required data and register for the marriage service. Couples can also choose their marriage cleric from those listed in the system and fix a convenient date.
The cleric will first confirm the signatures of both parties and the payment before accepting the marriage date.
Smart Justice rolled out, divorce adjourned
Family affairs and disputes are also being tackled by the family guidance and case management department of the Sharjah Family Court using remote communication of the Smart Justice programme. Court officials are holding discussions over pending cases and documenting the process to find solutions in the shortest time possible.
The family court has also allocated a hotline to receive inquiries and follow up requests sent via e-mails. Each department of the court has dedicated emails to receive client requests so as to process the cases on the same day.
Meanwhile, the marital dispute department of the family court has adjourned all divorces cases for a month to preserve the safety of all parties involved and the employees.
