Private family and social New Year’s Eve (NYE) gatherings of more than 30 people are prohibited in Dubai, the emirate’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management has announced.
The fine for violating this directive is Dh50,000 for the host and Dh15,000 for each attendee.
This was among the several Covid-19 safety measures approved by the committee during a meeting chaired by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The committee said that inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance with Covid safety measures. "Violators will face legal action and fines," the committee added.
Parties must be socially distanced, with the rule being one person per four square metres of space.
Other guidelines:
>> Those attending socially distanced parties are required to wear face masks at all times.
>> The elderly and those with chronic conditions should be advised not to attend these gatherings.
>> Any person experiencing symptoms such as coughing or fever must refrain from attending events.
The committee stressed that the preventive measures are aimed at safeguarding the community’s health and safety, "which continue to be the highest priority of the Government of Dubai and frontline entities".
The directives come as Dubai rolled out its free Covid-19 vaccination campaign. The Dubai Health Authority is providing the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination to residents.
