The new cath lab was opened during the inauguration of the two-day International Cardiology Conference held at the Beach Rotana Hotel.
The latest addition at the Ahalia Hospital is considered to be a giant step towards diagnosis and treatment of cardiac diseases as the cath lab is an efficient imaging medium that helps detect even the minute structures of the heart, according to experts.
"Blockage in coronary arteries is a major cause of heart failures. This mechanism not only helps in imaging minor structures in the heart, but also assists in executing the treatment through angioplasty, which is interventional or non-surgical cardiology," Dr JS Bhuvaneswaran, Cardiologist at PSG Hospital, Coimbatore, India, told Khaleej Times.
"Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory offers great advantages in interventional cardiology which is a rampantly used life-saving procedure, by ensuring best clarity, less toxicity and user-friendliness," he added.
The cath lab can also detect blockages in brain, kidney, legs and abdominal areas. The Dh2.5 million equipment is installed by Shimadzu, a Japanese company dealing with hospital equipment.
Delivering the opening address, Zarooni said the conference was a great opportunity to discuss topics related to cardiovascular and develop a better understanding in patient care.
Saeed Mohammed Houfan Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Ahalia Medical Group, was also present at the function.
