World’s tallest indoor skydiving tunnel launched

The project located at Al Wasmiyah will open its doors to the public in March 2015.

Samhaan Holding Company announced the launch of its first project in Bahrain, the tallest indoor skydiving tunnel in the world, where the wind speed reaches up to 290 km/h, and the height of glass flight chamber is 12 metres and width of 4.3 metres.

The project is located in Al Wasmiyah in the southern governorate of Bahrain, and it is scheduled to open its doors to the public in March 2015. The project aims to achieve the dream of flying with its theme being “fulfill your dream to fly”.

Indoor skydiving is equipped with advanced safety technology, which is suitable for all age groups, attracting amateurs and experienced fliers, fulfilled with excitement and enthusiasm. Indoor skydiving specialists will be present to educate visitors and have them trained on how to fly. The project includes a variety of facilities such as restaurant and cafes, merchandising outlet and a multipurpose hall.

Samhaan Holding Company signed an agreement with Aerodium, an Europe based highly specialised company in building wind tunnels all over the world and has appointed MSCEB as design and supervision consultant. ut a full range of transactions.

Shaikh Khalid donates race proceeds to cancer society

THE PROCEEDS OF the Khalid bin Hamad Swim Challenge was donated to Bahrain Cancer Society. Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) First Deputy President and Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) Chairman Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa visited the Bahrain Cancer Society headquarters last week and donated the proceeds of the race in support of patients.

Shaikh Khalid completed the 42km swim from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain for charity, clocking 20 hours.

Shaikh Khalid was welcomed by Bahrain Cancer Society Chairman Dr Abdulrahman Ibrahim Fakhro, members, a number of Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) doctors and voulnteers. He was updated on the programmes, events and campaigns lined-up by the association in support of cancer patients.

He commended the efforts of the association over 23 years in organising awareness-enhancing programmes, workshops and early-detection campaigns.

Shaikh Khalid met a number of patients who have recovered from cancer and was reassured about their health condition.

He was briefed by Dr Abdulrahman on the treatment of cancer patients.

CBB issues coin and medal for 10th anniversary of F1 racing

The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) has issued a coin and silver medal celebrating the 10th anniversary the launch of the Formula 1 in Bahrain, to be held from April 4 to 6.

The commemorative silver medal and coin is in denomina tion of 100 fils. An image of VIP Sakheer Tower is presented on the obverse of the coin, while its margin is carved with “Kingdom of Bahrain — Bahrain Grand Prix” along with the date of ‘2004-2014’.

The reverse of the coin shows its denomination of 100 fils. The coin is minted in the same weight and size of the existing coin 100 fils which weighs six grammes and its diameter 24mm while its thickness is 1.9 mm. The CBB has minted 31,000 pieces for this special occasion which has been wrapped in an attractive package.

The scheduled distribution of the coin is to be during the celebration the Bahrain International Circuit’s Formula One event ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’.

The cost of the medal is BD35 and can be purchased from the Currency Issue Directorate at the CBB from today. -news@khaleejtimes.com
