Well-wisher Obama calls Saudi King Abdullah

HONOLULU, Dec 26 () - US President Barack Obama spoke with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah on Sunday to wish him well and a speedy recovery after the elderly leader underwent back surgery, the White House said.

King Abdullah,was reported last week to have left a New York hospital in good health following an operation earlier in December to stabilize vertebrae in his spinal column.

Obama called to wish the King well and “to congratulate him on the progress that he has made toward a full recovery,” the White House said. “King Abdullah congratulated the President on the recent Senate approval of the New START Treaty.”

The US Senate approved the new nuclear weapons treaty with Russia on Wednesday, handing Obama an important victory on one of his top foreign policy goals of the year.
